I spent Saturday afternoon at Northside Art//Williamsburg Walks running the GO table - and what a wonderful experience it was! The energy was incredible, and I was so pleased at how many people stopped by to get information about the project. Artists and art lovers alike were enthusiastic about the prospect of a Brooklyn-wide open studios, uniting diverse neighborhoods and artists. I had great talks about everything from art education to converting apartments into studio spaces and got to hear a lovely reminiscence about visiting the Brooklyn Museum in the 1960s. I’ve lived in Brooklyn for less than a year, and the warmth and vibrancy of Brooklynites continuously thrills me. As a visiting friend remarked to me yesterday after wandering through the fair: “You Brooklyn people are all weird, but you’re weird together and that’s the most wonderful thing!”
