Why can’t I sell my work during the open studio weekend?
GO is about opening doors to neighbors and engaging community on a deep level. We want to ensure that visitors to studios are not solicited, that the process is about seeing work, engaging with artists, and not feeling pressure to purchase.
- Our goal is to create conversation among artists and community residents, emphasizing the creative working process.
- We want to give visitors the opportunity to view active workspaces rather than display spaces. Having work for sale encourages artists to present an exhibition environment rather than a workspace environment.
- As a general policy, Brooklyn Museum does not promote the sale of any artwork that is part of our programs and any such sale would be inconsistent with the mission and spirit of GO.
