If you live in Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill or Downtown Brooklyn chances are you know 61 Local, the public house on Bergen Street which functions as part community space and part bar. 61 Local has done a ton of community work…they think local at every level by serving local beer and soda, running a CSA pickup, hosting cooking classes shopped from local markets, and bringing people together for a local storytelling night.
During GO’s open studio weekend, 61 Local will function as one of our information spots (more on these info spots coming soon), but they are also going out of their way to run a bike ride. The Red Hook Ride is something they stared earlier this summer and they’ve adapted it for GO. If you like to bike and want to explore studios in the area near 61 Local, think about meeting them…
61 Local Rides Red Hook
Our FREE first Saturday bike ride is moving to a FREE second Saturday bike ride in honor of Go Brooklyn Art! Join us at 11am (the usual time) at 61 Local with your bike helmets, water bottles and working bicycles for a guided tour of Red Hook. Instead of our friendly food vendors we will visit a series of open artist studios. This monthly tour is peppered with talk about the history of the neighborhood and how it has become a hub for artists and artisanal food vendors alike.
This month we will wrap things up with lunch at 61 Local and an insiders tour of our neighboring studios at Invisible Dog Art Center. This is a special Saturday bike tour so don’t miss out!
The rides they’ve been doing look like a ton of fun, so don’t miss out. Also, don’t forget that Bike to Adventure is going to host a Sunday ride starting at the Museum, which is likely going to cover a lot of mileage and get to some of the studios that are really off the beaten path!
