I spent Saturday afternoon at Northside Art//Williamsburg Walks running the GO table - and what a wonderful experience it was! The energy was incredible, and I was so pleased at how many people stopped by to get information about the project. Artists and art lovers alike were enthusiastic about the prospect of a Brooklyn-wide open studios, uniting diverse neighborhoods and artists. I had great talks about everything from art education to converting apartments into studio spaces and got to hear a lovely reminiscence about visiting the Brooklyn Museum in the 1960s. I’ve lived in Brooklyn for less than a year, and the warmth and vibrancy of Brooklynites continuously thrills me. As a visiting friend remarked to me yesterday after wandering through the fair: “You Brooklyn people are all weird, but you’re weird together and that’s the most wonderful thing!”
Northside Art // Williamsburg Walks is a platform for art, involvement, participation and community. Northside Art is taking over the block of Bedford Ave from N8th-N9th Street as part of the Williamsburg Walks series!
Temporary wall units, interactive installations and sculptures will be staggered throughout the block for live painting performances, graffiti and other participation oriented works.
In addition to the installations there will be a variety of art related activities to engage in: a community mural, nail art, tarot readings, fortune teller and book readings. Mini pop up parks will also be available for your viewing/relaxing pleasure.
Acme Studio will host a viewing party for installations created during Williamsburg Walks the following day, Sunday June 17th. 63 N3rd Street Brooklyn, NY 11211
